Gov’t Says TSC Teachers Set To Start Offering Community Service Lessons

The government has noted that Teachers Service Commission will come up with guidelines to see to it that teachers are offering community service lessons to learners in the face of Covid-19 pandemic.

While addressing the media on stakeholder resolutions on reopening of learning institutions in the face of the Corona crisis on Thursday morning, education CS Prof. Magoha said the programme will resemble the Nyumba Kumi framework.

Good enough, CS Magoha noted parents will not incur any cost.

“Multiagency teams to map out country to ensure teachers offer community service lessons on values to learners under an arrangement similar to the Nyumba Kumi framework.

“TSC to issue guidelines on the new plan that will come at no cost to parents, stated CS Magoha.

At the same time, Magoha has reaffirmed that the government has set aside funds to cushion BoM teachers who have gone unpaid since the pandemic grounded to a halt activities in the education sector.

Also set to benefit are security staff. Magoha further assured school heads that they will get funds to settle utilities.

“Government has set aside funds to pay salaries to Board of Government teachers, security staff and settle utilities,” noted CS Magoha.
Tertiary institutions
On the issue of tertiary institutions, education CS said that the ministry is still inspecting them, in a bid to to ensure that they are in line with Covid-19 containment measures, ahead of reopening in January 2021.
Professor Magoha also indicated that most colleges are not ready for reopening. He however, encouraged institutions to embrace online platform in offering their programmes, including examinations and graduations.
“Most colleges and universities not ready for reopening; they will remain closed till January 2021.
“Universities should continue offering online programmes, including examinations and graduations,” added CS Magoha.
