KMTC Kakamega Background Information & Location
Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) – Kakamega campus is one of the 71 constituent campus located in Kakamega town right next to the Kakamega County Referral Hospital that serves as the college’s main clinical experience site. The college was established in 1952 to train enrolled nurses. It was not until 1979 that the training of Environmental Sciences was introduced. In 1981, the faculty of Medical Laboratory Technology was added. The diploma courses were added in 1994. It was not until September 2005 that the upgrading of Enrolled Nurses to Diploma level was introduced. Kakamega KMTC currently has a student population of 750.
The institution also has clubs, societies and sports. The clubs that are available in the institution are Christian Union, Muslim Group and Catholic Action. Sports are netball, football and athletics.

The main clinical experience site for the students at KMTC Kakamega is the Kakamega County Referral Hospital that is situated right next to the institution. The Kakamega County Referral Hospital is approved for the practical sessions of students pursuing medical courses. The hospital is also used for internship around the medical field.
