List of KMTC Short courses; Target Group, Campus offered, Duration and Fees 2024

KMTC Short courses are offered to individuals, corporates or tailor-made for organizations. Short courses helps one to meet Continuous Professional Development (CPD) requirements and remain relevant in profession.

Application is made online by logging in to the KMTC portal – available at www.kmtc.ac.ke and choose the option short courses and follow the steps as prompted by the system.

1. HIV Testingservices (HTS)

Description
The course prepares participants to provide comprehensive HIV Testing Services (HTS), strengthen linkage to care and treatment and other post-test services, define target populations who may particularly benefit from HIV testing services (accredited by NASCOP)

2. Echocardiography

Description

The course enables the participants to perform and interpret echocardiograms and ultrasound imaging of the heart and blood flow, gain expert understanding of the latest scientific laboratory equipment including use of the clinical skills laboratory and echocardiographic machines

Radiographers, Healthcare professionals with background in medical physiology

3. Monitoring & evaluation

Description
The course provides participants with requisite knowledge to design and implement healthcare projects to meet the populations’ health needs, and promote evidence-based decision making. Graduates work with local & international NGOs, public & private sector projects

Project Managers, Project Officers, Project Assistants, health information officers, practitioners involved in designing, supervising, coordinating or monitoring interventions

4. Healthcare Entrepreneurship

Description

This course empowers participants become healthcare entrepreneurs or to manage their healthcare businesses profitably.

Target Group
Healthcare workers and those in healthcare business.

5. Safe Phlebotomy

Description

The course gives participants knowledge and skills to perform safe phlebotomy, provide quality specimens for laboratory tests, handle phlebotomy equipment and avoid occupational exposure.

Target Group
Laboratory technicians,technologists, scientists,medical officers, clinical officers, nurses, other certificate or diploma in health related course.

6. Infection Prevention

Description
This modular course participants will be equip participants to prevent and control infections in different healthcare set ups.

Healthcare workers, hospital support staff, hospital administrations, HTC counselors, caregivers in general.

7. First aid and basic life support

Description
This course empowers participants to prevent and manage life threatening emergencies. Training follows approved international guidelines helps participant’s.

Drivers, Hotelier, Police officers, Security firms, County emergency/Disaster teams, teachers, etc.

8. Sign Language for Health workers

Description
The course prepares participants to communicate in sign language, helping the deaf access healthcare in line with Universal Health Coverage

Target Group
Health workers & those interested in working the deaf; minimum requirement certificate in
any course.

9. Community Health and Development

Description
The course prepares participants to work in the health sector as community health workers in line with UHC objectives.

Target Group
Form four leavers and anyone interested in working at community level; minimum requirement D Plain.

10. Medical Engineering (Basic electronics)

Description
The course participants will gain and apply knowledge to build, service, repair and maintain various electronics equipment.

Target Group
Technicians, Those wishing to pursue technician career with a bias to medical equipment.

11. Medical Engineering (Basic electrical wiring)

Description
The course prepares participants to perform basic electrical wiring installation and distribution for domestic premises, carry out electrical insulations, safety and functional tests.

12. Medical Engineering (Refrigeration, air conditioning and cold room)

Description
The course enables participants to carry out service, repair and maintenance of refrigeration and air conditioning systems.

Description
The course enables participants to carry out general welding and fabrication in metal works, service and repair.

14. Dialysis Nursing

Description

The course is tailored to equip nurses with specialized skills in managing patients requiring both hemodialysis andperitoneal dialysis.

This course targets nurses working in Nephrology units in both public and private sectors.

15. Adherence Counselling

Description
The course prepares participants to provide counselling services to HIV positive clients, strengthen adherence to treatment and minimize resistance to ARVs. (Accredited by NASCOP).

Target Group
HTS Counsellors Healthcare workers providing comprehensive care (working in CCCs) Diploma holders in medical related course orsocial sciences interested in HIV/AIDS programs.

16. Food Hygiene and Inspection

Description
The course helps participants to source and prepare/handle food hygienically therefore reducing food transmitted diseases.

Target Group
Food handlers –hotels, restaurants, kiosks, home etc.

17. Counseling skills for Healthcare Professionals

Description
The course prepares participants to provide holistic clients’ care using counseling approaches; prevent burnouts among themselves, improve communication skills and interpersonal relations at work place.

Target Group
Health workers , social workers, community health workers, teachers. Anyone interested in
providing counseling services (minimum entry certificate).
