Primary, Secondary Schools To Reopen In October 12

Education cabinet secretary professor George Magoha has announced that schools will re-open on October 12 for Grade 4, Class 8 and Form 4 students.

CS Magoha said on Tuesday that the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) and the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education(KCSE) will start on March 22 and March 24, 2021, respectively.

Marking of the KCSE exams will be for three weeks from April 19 to May 7, 2021.

The announcement comes barely a week after the Ministry of Education directed  students in their final year of study in all public universities and tertiary institutions to report first before others are allowed back.

Next Tuesday, all students and staff will be required to wear face masks, subjected to temperature screenings, wash their hands and observe high levels of hygiene.

“Where there is no running water, schools will use sanitisers,” Magoha said while acknowledging the challenge of physical distancing among students.

“Although physical distancing will remain a challenge, it should not be used as a bottleneck to keep any child away from school,” he said.
