Relief As Government Backdates Salary Of BoM Teachers

It is a sigh of relief after the Ministry of Education(MoE) retracted its earlier communication of paying Board Of Management for only five months, instead these teachers will be paid for six(6) months.

In the latest circular dated 26th August, 2020 Ministry of Education PS Dr. Belio Kipsang stated that payment of BoM teachers will be back dated to the month of July and not August as earlier indicated.

He said, “the Ministry of education will support teachers employed by Board of Management (BoM) as 15th March 2020 for six(6) months only starting July to December 2020 by paying them Kshs 10,000 per month.”

Education Permanent Secretary Dr. Belio Kipsang also stated that the latest circular supersedes the one that was released on 20th August, 2020. “This circular supersedes the one released on 20th August, 2020,” he stated.

It is important to note that only teachers who were employed by Board of Management (BoM) as 15th March will benefit from this package.

This will be reprieve owing to the fact that they have stayed unpaid since the month of March when coronavirus pandemic took a heavy toll on education sector.

He however noted that only teachers who have Teachers Service Commission(TSC) Number will benefit from the package.

Dr. Belio further reiterated that payment will be made monthly ruling out advance payment and that, “each teacher must sign for the money personally and records kept for later auditing.”
