Secondary Teacher I are teachers in Secondary schools whose grade is C3 (formerly L); This is a promotional grade for teachers in secondary school.

Requirements for Secondary Teacher I T-Scale 8

• have served as Secondary School Teacher II T-Scale 7 for a minimum period of three (3) years;
• have satisfactory rating in the performance appraisal;

On the other hand, Senior Teacher I are administrators in Primary schools with enrolment of over 1000 learners with Grade C3.

This is a promotional grade for administrators of primary institutions. Senior Teacher I will be in charge of other teachers. In the absence of the head of institution and the deputy, he/she will be in charge.

Requirements for Senior Teacher I T-Scale 8

• have served as Senior Teacher II T- Scale 7 for a minimum period of three (3) years;
• have satisfactory rating in the performance appraisal;
• have successfully undertaken the relevant TPD modules;
• demonstrate ability to supervise, mentor and provide professional support to other teachers;
• have a valid Teaching Certificate; and meet the requirements of Chapter Six (6) of the Constitution; and
• meet any other requirement the Commission may deem necessary.

These tutors earn monthly salaries of Sh41,343- Sh51,927; they will now earn between Sh43,154 and Sh53,943.
